While The Sprout Foundation understands the importance of quality education and adequate school facilities in achieving great results, we also acknowledge how important a healthy and substantial diet is when it comes to succeeding at school - it is incredibly difficult to focus on schoolwork with an empty stomach.
Many learners in South Africa may receive a complimentary meal at lunch time from school, however, unfortunately, this is their only meal for the day as their families cannot afford to feed them at home. Our breakfast feeding scheme aims to serve these learners with a bowl of porridge every morning before the school day starts.

The Sprout Foundation also supports under-resourced high schools; Groutville High School with 3000 learners attending is one. Sprout wishes to start a feeding scheme for the 1100 grade 11 and 12 students of Groutville, as these are the pinnacle years in their schooling career. Ensuring that these learners have food to eat before they start their day may mean that they have higher chances of doing well in their exams and getting into tertiary education facilities.

Learners from our partner school come from under-resourced backgrounds, and a significant number of them arrive at school hungry. Sprout aims to address this issue by providing each hungry child with a sandwich during lunchtime for a few months until their new kitchen is installed.
